Edinburgh Steiner School is seeking an inspirational qualified Steiner Waldorf teacher to teach our Class 4 starting latest January 2027.  An additional subject specialism would be an advantage.

Class Teacher Job Description – Main purpose of post:
1. To teach the Steiner Waldorf curriculum including:
• The main lesson and additional subject lessons (including teaching subject lessons to other classes);
• Accompany the class in subject lessons with other teachers where necessary.

2. To take overall responsibility for the class including:
• Record keeping, in accordance with statutory and school requirements;
• Supervising, managing and assessing the pupils;
• Liaising with colleagues and parents;
• Organising and supervising the class’s participation in trips, festivals and other activities;
• Management of the classroom environment;
• Participating in break cover;
• Participating in the admissions process for new pupils;
• Holding Parents’ Evenings and individual consultation sessions with parents.

3. To attend teacher and other meetings as required.
4. To participate in providing cover for absent colleagues.
5. To support the school’s ethos, principles and objectives.
6. To undertake the appropriate preparation, study and training as necessary both for the effective delivery of the curriculum and to advance the school’s ethos, principles and objectives.
7. To be aware of the school’s policies and procedures and to support their implementation.
8. To participate with other colleagues in teacher administration responsibilities for the whole school.
9. Any other duties reasonably requested by the school.
10. The post holder is required to operate within the school policies including the Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety policies.
11. The job description is current but liable to variation to reflect or anticipate changes in the requirements of the post.

Responsible to:
The position and is accountable to the Board of Trustees but reports to, and is supported in day-to-day matters by, the College of Teachers and Management.

Preschool

Childhood is an essential period of development to be protected, nurtured and nourished, rather than rushed. Our Preschool includes our Baby Care, Play Group and our Nursery School with Grade R. We are looking for a suitably qualified and nurturing teacher for our Nursery School and Grade R age mixed age group.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and passion for the Waldorf approach to education and be committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for children aged 4-6 years old (Nursery School and Grade R)
Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver Waldorf-inspired seasonal lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and in line with Waldorf.
• Create and maintain a warm, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment that supports the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child.
• Incorporate daily, weekly and seasonal rhythms and rituals into the classroom, including storytelling, puppetry, singing, and movement.
• Provide a range of artistic activities, including painting, drawing, clay modelling, and crafts.
• Foster a love of nature and the environment through outdoor play and exploration.
• Collaborate with other teachers and school administration to ensure each child’s needs are met.
• Attend professional development training and stay up to date with Waldorf pedagogy and best practices.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each child’s progress and communicate with parents regularly.
• Provide individualised attention and support to each child in your care.

The successful applicant must: –
• Be suitably qualified with a minimum of a BE.d Foundation Phase Degree or Grade R Diploma
• Be SACE registered – up to date and fully compliant
• Waldorf experience will be advantageous
• Be open-minded and creative in teaching methods with a passion for working with young children and their families
• Be interested in joining a highly individual faculty, working towards self-development within the Waldorf ethos.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with the rest of the school’s teachers and administration staff
