HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER

Full-time position from the beginning of Term 2 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

The successful applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Primary teaching subject: English for Grades 8 – 12
  • Prior teaching experience, with at least one year of teaching Matric English
  • A secondary teaching subject in either Drama, Art, History, Geography, Physic or Life Sciences
  • Appropriate qualification (PGCE with a first degree in English or B Ed, FET level)
  • SACE registration
  • Interest in and willingness to learn Waldorf pedagogy and about ethos of the school
  • Caring and enthusiastic, with a dedication to children and their development
  • Able to work well with our dynamic community of staff, learners and parents
  • Willingness to actively contribute to the collective management of the high school

HIGH SCHOOL COORDINATOR

Full-time permanent position to begin as soon as possible

The successful applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in an education environment, preferably in a high school
  • Experience working with a provincial education department, with a preference for proven networks built within the WCED
  • Above average competence in developing and implementing policies, procedures and systems, guiding others in the consistence application of these.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Integrity, sensitivity and professional skills able to respond to difficult situations within a school environment
  • Proven success in planning, organizing and implementing numerous activities – events, timetables, annual plans
  • Evidence of successful and positive mentorship, support and guidance to others – providing information, ideas and skill, leadership as a colleague
  • Registered with the South African Council of Educators (SACE).

Our preference would be to appoint a person who also has the following skills, attributes and experience:

  • Relevant experience in teaching and leadership in a high school
  • Willing to occasionally teach a high school subject
  • Proven experience in developing the documents and evidence required for accreditation with Umalusi, or similar
  • Experience in the management and administration of Matric exams (NSC)
  • Advanced skills in MS Office or similar business applications
  • Some experience in planning and administering events
  • Previous experience in marketing of a school

SCHOOL COUNSELLOR

Full-time permanent position to begin in as soon as possible, preferably beginning Term 2

  • a dedication to children and their development.
  • Able to establish good working relationships with key school staff, including the discussion of referrals, managing a caseload independently, establishing individual developmental plans for students as needed, and keeping a record of all progress and process notes.
  • Able to provide creative therapies to meet the needs of the students at the school. Although the major focus will be on supporting adolescents from age 12 to 19; preference will be given to applicants who also have some experience in working with younger children and are willing to work with children aged 6 – 12 occasionally.  Training in play therapy, trauma counselling and/or bereavement therapy would be ideal.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in working with the National Schools Act and Child Care Act, as well as understanding of child protection matters, policies and procedures, with proven experience in identifying and responding to concerns efficiently.
  • Professional registration as a counselling psychologist with the HPCSA, or as a social worker with the SACSSP, plus a minimum of 5 years post-qualifying experience in individual counselling or therapy, preferably offering psycho-social support to young individuals.

Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • Have had previous experience in a Waldorf school, or who display an interest in Waldorf pedagogy, the ethos of the school and a commitment to learn;
  • Are able to work well with our dynamic community of staff, learners and parents; and
  • Are willing to actively contribute to the collective running of the high school.
