FULL-TIME NURSERY SCHOOL AND & GRADE R TEACHER

Michael Mount Waldorf School, situated in Bryanston, Johannesburg, is currently looking for a FULL-TIME NURSERY SCHOOL & GRADE R TEACHER to start in our 4th term, 12 October 2026.

Preschool

Childhood is an essential period of development to be protected, nurtured and nourished, rather than rushed. Our Preschool includes our Baby Care, Play Group and our Nursery School with Grade R. We are looking for a suitably qualified and nurturing teacher for our Nursery School and Grade R age mixed age group.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and passion for the Waldorf approach to education and be committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for children aged 4-6 years old (Nursery School and Grade R)
Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver Waldorf-inspired seasonal lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and in line with Waldorf.
• Create and maintain a warm, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment that supports the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child.
• Incorporate daily, weekly and seasonal rhythms and rituals into the classroom, including storytelling, puppetry, singing, and movement.
• Provide a range of artistic activities, including painting, drawing, clay modelling, and crafts.
• Foster a love of nature and the environment through outdoor play and exploration.
• Collaborate with other teachers and school administration to ensure each child’s needs are met.
• Attend professional development training and stay up to date with Waldorf pedagogy and best practices.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each child’s progress and communicate with parents regularly.
• Provide individualised attention and support to each child in your care.

The successful applicant must: –
• Be suitably qualified with a minimum of a BE.d Foundation Phase Degree or Grade R Diploma
• Be SACE registered – up to date and fully compliant
• Waldorf experience will be advantageous
• Be open-minded and creative in teaching methods with a passion for working with young children and their families
• Be interested in joining a highly individual faculty, working towards self-development within the Waldorf ethos.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with the rest of the school’s teachers and administration staff

AFRIKAANS TEACHER FOR GRADES 6 – 9

Part-time position to begin 20 July 2026

Our preferred candidate will be passionate about teaching Afrikaans to children from age 12 to age 15 at additional language level.
The ideal candidate must meet the following criteria:
• Formal teaching qualification at Intermediate and/or Senior Phase, with Afrikaans as a speciality.
• SACE registration.
• Interest in and willingness to learn Waldorf pedagogy.
• Willingness to work with children at different ages, adapting their teaching style to the Waldorf methodology and each year of the child’s development.
• Caring and enthusiastic, with a love of and dedication to children and their development.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently without formal supervision.
• Able to work well with our dynamic community of staff, learners and parents.

• Willingness to actively contribute to the collective management of the school.

Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience teaching at a Waldorf school; for whom Afrikaans is a home language and who have a high level of English proficiency.

  • SACE Registered
  • Have experience teaching Afrikaans First Additional Language at primary school level
  • Open-minded and creative in teaching methods
  • Interested in joining a highly individual faculty, working towards self-development within the Waldorf ethos.

AFTERCARE ASSISTANT / FACILITATOR

Part-time position to begin as soon as possible. Our preferred candidate will be passionate about nurturing and caring for children from age 6 to age 12, helping to guide and supervise children in the daily Aftercare.

The ideal candidate must meet the following criteria:
• Experience in working with children, preferably in a primary school aftercare
• Relevant First Aid qualification
• Have a joyful, creative and innovative approach to working with children
• Willing to work with children at different ages
• Have an understanding of the Waldorf approach to the growing child
• Caring and enthusiastic, with a love of and dedication to children and their development
• Self-motivated and able to work independently without formal supervision
• Able to work well with our dynamic community of staff, learners and parents
• Willing to work the required hours of 12h00 to 15h30 daily
• Willing and able to occasionally substitute for the Aftercare Teacher, working from 12h00 to 17h30

Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience at a Waldorf school.
